Work > A Spine Among the Stacks

Setting the stage for a library experience of one’s own, 'A Spine Among the Stacks', presents sculptures made from newspapers, a project of the city made monumental, and a series of furtive works shelved for borrowers. The mise en scène underfoot soothes a cramp that swells between institutional and individual space. Three histories unearthed by the artist—a brickyard in the neighbourhood over 60 years ago, a renovation in 2008, and a partnership fraught with administrative provisions—inform this series of experimental installations to be viewed throughout the library.

The opening reception was held on Wednesday, 31 August, 2016, with a performance by Joan Somers Donnelly and Sara French titled, “One for the Record Books”.
